In some companies, employees who work on their rest days or public holidays are granted Off in Lieu (OIL). This means they receive paid day off instead of monetary compensation, acting as a substitute for overtime pay.
Gutsy makes it simple to create and manage Off in Lieu by allowing you to set up a dedicated leave type, assign it to employees, and grant entitlements when needed. In this article, we will guide you through the full process.
This article covers:
A. Setting up Off in Lieu leave type
From the side navigation, go to Leaves and click Leave Types
Click + Leave Type to create a new leave type
You will be directed to the setup page:
New Leave Type
a. Leave type category: Select Off in Lieu
b. Leave type name: Name it based on your company’s policy
c. Description: This is pre-filled to indicate that only additional leave days can be granted to employees
Leave Scheme Type
a. Scheme name: Enter a name for this scheme
b. Scheme description: Add a description if needed (optional)
c. Assigned company(s): Select the relevant company/entities
Allow Half Day: Enable if employees can take half-day leave
Proof Upload: Enable if supporting documents are needed. Add proof labels and set them as mandatory if needed.
Reason Input: Request employees to provide a reason. Add multiple labels and mark as mandatory if necessary.
Click Update once completed
B. Assigning leave type to employees
After creating the Off in Lieu leave type, you will need to assign it to employees so they can apply for it.

C. Granting Off in Lieu to employees
To allocate Off in Lieu leave:
Go to Employees > All Employees
Search for the employee’s name
Click the three-dot icon and select View
Navigate to the Entitlement tab and locate the Off in Lieu leave type
Click the eye icon under the Adjustment section
Click + Adjustment
You will be directed to create a new leave adjustment. Fill in the following:
a. No. of days to add: Enter the number of days to credit
b. Remarks (optional): Add notes for reference (recommended)
c. Start date: When the leave becomes available
d. Expiry date (optional): Set a validity period if applicable
Click Submit
The leave will be successfully added to the employee’s entitlement
